Dear worldbuilders and wild things,
This week I’m continuing to share the process I go through when creating a commission—a soulscape.
If you haven’t already read the last few newsletter in this series, you can find them here:
This is where I left off last week:
Then I made a somewhat impulsive decision—let’s brush over and blend out all the details I just added and see what happens!
Initially, I regretted taking that risk, but that strange thing happened where the more I sat with the piece, the less I hated it, until eventually, I found myself gradually liking it more and more.1 While also thinking that it still kind of looked like shit.
Conclusion: brains are confusing.
Current Progress:
Moving forward…
I’m not gonna lie, this post felt a little more vulnerable to share. Sharing this particularly messy and chaotic part of the process, where I’m creatively flailing in the dark.
But I’m inspired by
, who writes about the public creative practice here.Whatever your desired relationship with time — committing to a cadence of newsletters, podcasts or videos, as dispatches becomes a public ritual of staying close to yourself. A sacred ceremony of bi-directional witnessing.
And I remember—the more I embrace the chaos, the more I learn about myself.
More capacity. More space.
More truth.
One more thing…
I Heard Shawn Hook’s Bigger Than The Night for the first time literally just today and this song’s metaphysical claws grabbed hold of the teeny brain elves in my mind and injected them with shots of dopamine.
That, combined with having this lofi video playing on the tv has made for a lovely Sunday afternoon/evening.
I hope you see something lovely this week,
If you’d like to support my work, you can buy me a “coffee” over on my Ko-fi page! Every little bit helps me to keep creating. <3
Kind of like getting a new haircut.
